Covid has been a testing time for everyone and after years of being stuck at home, are you finding yourself wondering what you used to wear before you got used to comfy joggers and jumpers? Do those old jeans now feel a bit uncomfortable?
Bodies have changed too. Some people have had a fitness transformation and are ready to show off their body. Others have put on a few pounds and are happy to hide or are desperately now trying to lose a bit of weight as the spring approaches. We’re all starting to see a bit of light at the end of the tunnel with people returning to the office, so are you now thinking… ‘ahh I’ve got to see people again, what do I wear?!’
Well would it help if I told you that having a great sense of personal style has nothing to do with size! Nope, but it’s about understanding your body shape and learning what styles flatter you the most regardless of gaining or losing a few pounds. Once you understand this and know how to create proportion through your clothes, you will make the most of your best features and will feel the best you possibly can in your everyday wear.
As I’ve already mentioned, sizing can vary, but you may be surprised to know that a lot of us share the same body shape. The five key body shapes for women include; apple, pear, hour-glass, athletic and strawberry. Do you know what you are?
You may or may not feel good about your body shape for all kind of reasons that can leave you feeling self-conscious. These include things such as getting older, weight gain, trauma, thoughtless comments etc, but I really want you to know that you and can look and feel amazing and it’s just about knowing what works for you!
No body shape is better than the other either. You may look at something on someone else which you love and think, ‘that would never look the same on me’ but this could be quite simply because they’re a pear and you’re an hourglass, so a different style is going to look better on you.
For example, I love how an over-sized jumper can look so stylish on someone, but on me it just doesn’t work and that’s fine. I save myself time and money by avoiding those styles and sticking to what I know suits me and you can do the same.
Just to point out, you don’t have to have a negative body image to struggle with knowing how to dress for a special occasion or your new job, so understanding your body shape can help everyone. In fact it can make life a lot easier and can save you a load time and money by avoiding pointless purchases that end up at the back of your wardrobe.
